Autopsy Report:
The musician fell from a hotel balcony in the capital of Argentina on Wednesday, and the autopsy conducted in Buenos Aires indicates that he died from internal and external hemorrhage as well as injuries.
Later, the singer’s lower skull was seen to be cracked, according to a statement given to the local news channel TN by the head of SAME, the public emergency medical services system in Buenos Aires.
Complementary histopathological, biochemical, and toxicological investigations were ordered, according to the medical examiners in Buenos Aires, and the results might support or refute their initial findings.
On Thursday, the prosecutor’s office said in their Press Release, “At this point, the analysis of the stomach content, alcohol and toxins in the blood, vitreous humor, bile, nasal swab, and urine for the determination of alcohol and toxins was requested.”
The prosecution stated on Thursday that “it is presumed that Payne did not adopt a reflex posture to protect himself and that he could have fallen into a state of semi- or total unconsciousness” due to the position in which the body was placed and the injuries sustained in the fall. The Buenos Aires Security Ministry’s director of communications, Pablo Policicchio, confirmed to The Associated Press on Wednesday that Payne “had jumped from the balcony of his room.”
Even though it appears the musician was alone when the fall happened, the prosecutor’s office stated in a news statement that Payne’s death circumstances will be looked into as a “doubtful death” per protocol. Payne “was going through some kind of outbreak due to substance abuse,” according to the office.
The Mobile Criminalistics Unit of the City Police in Buenos Aires, who examined the incident, reported that they found items inside Payne’s hotel room that “would be narcotics and alcoholic beverages, as well as several destroyed objects and furniture.” The prosecutor’s office stated that further confirmation from experts is needed to determine whether the compounds discovered are drugs.
Just before midnight, Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 14 sent a statement to The Hollywood Reporter stating that the doctors had concluded that “polytrauma, internal and external hemorrhage, has been the cause of death of Liam James Payne.”
911 Call
The hotel management contacted 911 just before Payne passed away at the upscale Palermo area of Buenos Aires to request assistance for a visitor who was “under the influence of drugs and alcohol and had destroyed some objects in the room,” according to a prosecutor’s office statement on Thursday. The manager’s voice grew more agitated as the call went on, according to the audio that The Associated Press was able to get. They also saw that the accommodation featured a balcony.
Family Statement:
In their statement, the family shared, “We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny, and brave soul.” The statement further mentioned, “We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time.”
